Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
Kanab , Utah
www.ut.blm.gov/monument

For this National Monument, the first to be managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Odyssey produced Traces in Time: The Outdoor Laboratory of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, a 16-minute orientation program for the Monument's four Visitor Centers. Along with the orientation length video, Odyssey produced a longer version for sale in the Visitor Centers' gift shops. The programs inspire awe and wonder at the diverse science being studied in this vast frontier. They take viewers to remote locations with paleontologists, archaeologists, ecologists, geologists and historians to study science being researched in the monument. Traces in Times brings alive the beauty, danger and uniqueness of this remote and wild place, inspiring people to appreciate, preserve and protect this irreplaceable treasure. Odyssey also produced thirty short video programs for five interactive kiosks. Each Ask the Experts kiosk focuses on a different branch of science studied in the Monument including archaeology, geology, paleontology, ecology and history.

Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitor Center
Homer, Alaska
www.islandsandocean.org

Programs for this visitor center required filming across the length of the Aleutian Islands, in the Pribilof Islands, the Bering Sea, and on the islands of Southeast Alaska. Journey of the Tiglax, the orientation theater program, takes visitors along on U.S. Fish & Wildlife research trips to the remote corners of this vast island refuge – as biologists monitor and study the seabirds, aquatic species and marine mammals that populate the refuge in inconceivable numbers. The Seabird Theater is a four-screen object-theater "immersion" experience that places visitors in the midst of one of world's largest seabird colonies – complete with surround sound audio, and smells of brine and guano. Other video, interactive and audio programs address human history and human impact on the islands, the rigors of field camp life, the capabilities of a research vessel designed for service in world's most violent weather and seas, and insights into the science applied towards understanding these dangerous, yet fragile, ecosystems. Journey of the Tiglax was a finalist at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival and winner at the 2004 N.A.I. Interpretive Media Awards.

Working with the USDA Forest Service, Odyssey Productions produced The Cycle of Chaos and Creation, an orientation program that blends new and archival footage as it describes the processes of volcanism, provides a dramatic chronicle of the May 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens, and explores the remarkable changes left in its aftermath. The program opens and closes with surreal scenes of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, creating cataclysmic upheavals on the earth's surface as he labors at his blacksmith's forge and anvil in the underworld. Silver Telly, 1999. (This program replaces the original orientation video that was produced for the visitor center's opening in 1986.)

Tillamook State Forest
Oregon Department of Forestry

Odyssey Productions produced the interpretive film Sea of Green, which covers the history of the Tillamook State Forest, its current and future status, and how the Oregon Department of Forestry continues to manage the forest's timber, recreational opportunities, and wildlife habitat. In addition to original filming, the program includes extensive archival footage and photos of the devastating fires that occurred in the 1930s and 1940s, and the reforestation that followed. Designed as an interpretive program, this film is also being used in the fund-raising effort for the Tillamook State Forest Interpretive Center.
