Odyssey Productions Inc. has been a full-service film, video, and multimedia production company since 1973. We have specialized in producing interpretive programs for museums, visitor centers, zoos, and aquariums for over twenty years. Odyssey has produced programs for private institutions and government agencies at every level in the U.S.— national, regional, state, county, city, and tribal. We also produce national television documentary specials, commercials, and corporate films.

Collaboration defines the creative process at Odyssey. Our Client’s aims and objectives come first; their knowledge and insights are sought throughout the production process. Odyssey’s core philosophy is to include the Client actively in the collaborative process—to assure that their message is being told, and their expectations are being met.

Odyssey produces a wide range of audiovisual programs: large-screen orientation theater programs, multiple-screen immersion theaters, object theaters, interactive multimedia kiosks, active participation stations, bio-feedback systems, and navigable audiovisual environments—as well as programs for distribution, sale, and broadcast. These projects have been designed in all shapes, sizes, and budget ranges—from single programs to large, multi-gallery, multi-program contracts.

Productions for our clients have won a wide variety of awards, including: numerous Cine Golden Eagles, Muse Awards, Tellys, NAI Interpretive Media Awards, Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival Finalists, U.S. Film & Video Festival Awards, and Gold Apple Awards.

Interpretive programs are seldom “stand-alone” exhibits. Odyssey considers of utmost importance the integration of our productions into the dimensional and visual environments that surround them—that is, to make them compatible with the typographic, graphic, and design elements of adjacent exhibitry. We also strive to assure that the ‘tone-of-voice’—the look and sound—of a production is seamless with its surroundings, and that it reflects the personality and core interests of the Client and its key constituencies.

Our programs are produced using the latest, state-of–the-art, digital equipment. Odyssey has an AVID Media Composer HD digital editing system, and we shoot in virtually every current format: 4K/2K/RedHD, HDCAM, XDCAM, DVC Pro HD, HDV and even Super 35 mm and Super 16mm film if the need arises. Additionally, we regularly work with the most experienced interactive multimedia, motion graphics, animation, and video and audio post-production facilities in finalizing programs for presentation from HD playback systems, DVD and Blu-ray, broadcast, and websites.

Odyssey’s team members have a thorough understanding of the production techniques and technologies currently used in interpretive audiovisual programming—and are able to contribute from our wealth of experience to the success of even the largest and most complex projects.

Steve Heiser is President of Odyssey Productions and has been directing and shooting films and videos for 38 years. Steve has directed, filmed and recorded productions across the U.S. for private museums, the National Park Service, USDA Forest Service, BLM, US Fish & Wildlife, USACE, BOR, and NOAA—as well as a wide variety of state, regional, tribal and local agencies. These include cultural history, natural history, science, and sports programs. He has also directed national PBS and Discovery Channel specials.

Carolyn has been managing and producing film, video, interactive, and audio programs since joining Odyssey Productions in 1993. She is highly motivated—with exceptional planning and organizational skills—and takes pride in producing and delivering creative programs on time and within budget. Carolyn works efficiently and tirelessly; enabling her to manage and produce large, complex, multi-program projects. She produces award-winning film and video programs with a wide variety of budgets, always incorporating the finest interpretive scriptwriters, cinematographers, editors, animators, interactive, and sound design specialists.

As writer/producer, Adam Heiser brings over 15 years of film and television experience to Odyssey Productions. In addition to working on interpretive projects for Odyssey, Adam has spent much of the last 8 years in New York as Senior Field Producer for NBC and CBS. His experiences filming biographical segments and special interest broadcast specials—including soldiers and sailors in war zones, cops and criminals, racecars and research vessels—have taken him around the world on land, air, and sea. With a style that blends the informative and dramatic, Adam’s goal for every project is to draw the audience into a personal experience with the subject.
